Snow Days....

To those not familiar with the DC area, let me explain how we feel about snow...we are confused by it...it comes in little incriments and rarely does it stick around... we never really know what the snow plan for our area should be...do we follow the example of northerners and have lots of equipment and people ready to plow, or do we follow the southerners and just deal with the snow that does fall because it won't be around long...?? this confusion leaves our public school's confused also...some days the kids will go when it is absolutely treacherous for our non- prepared vehicles to be on our non prepared roads, and some days, school will be cancelled for what amounts to rain....today, a tiny amount of snow came...and schools were cancelled (we already had a four day weekend for a scheduled break, and today makes it 5) Yesterday I took the oppurtunity to teach the older three kids how to snowboard and Dale took the younger boys tubing...today when I saw that school was cancelled because some snow started to accumulate I was excited to go out and snowboard on our cheapy boards (20 bucks at target) , only to find that we were all wiping out because of such little accumulation of snow...it was hilarious, I grabbed the camera but had already missed the best wipe outs...here are few...enjoy...! I hear that they are calling for more snow tonight...so tomorrow may be the day to showcase the kids actual new found snowboarding skills....!

The kids had told me they snowboarded into the woods already, they said "we already made a safe and smooth trail into the woods!" I got excited so we headed over to this trail..I headed down the trail and completely WIPED OUT!, I asked the kids just where exactly the "safe to go on trail that we made into the woods" was...they explained to me AFTER I flipped, that it wasn't today that they had made the safe trail, THAT trail was safe and smooth on a different day! (Thanks guys!)

(Snowboarding in platform boots also doesn't help!!)

Yeah, my kids are out of school too- it cracks me up here! In Utah, they NEVER cancel- last year, when we had major storms every three days- we had to get up and shovel our way out just so Jacob could make it to the bus stop- they are the other extreme there! Your snowboarding and sledding look like a blast! Way Fun! :-)

Well, it does look like you had more snow that I imagined. I've never heard of snowboarding in your very own back yard, though. Very cool.

How fun!! I was holed up working on report card grades and went to a doctor appointment. When I got there the doors were locked up tight. I guess the doctor was as bad as schools. Prince George's County did have school yesterday but went home early when the snow started flying and stayed home today because of the ice. I dred the extra days of school in June. Stay warm and have more fun!
