current events

Last night we went to Shawn's High School performance of Les Miserables. For anyone familiar with the show, Shawn is part of the "ensemble". He has a few odds and ends parts. I think I missed him a few times. He did have to be background for a the wedding scene where he is wearing a tux and dancing with a girl in a ball gown. It is a beautifully choreographed scene and it was really fun to see him in it. Funny thing though...thats the one scene he didn't really tell me a whole lot about and it surprised me a bit.

Melissa has a bit part on stage for about 1 minute. Despite the small part, she was very excited to be a part of a high school production, so all the rehearsals, all the practices and the time commitment didn't bother her one bit. She and I think she is really lucky to have had the opportunity for this to be her first experience with any type of theater!

It was a top notch performance. I saw Les Miserables on Broadway, and thought it might be difficult to watch high schoolers butcher it, how wrong I was! I preferred this version! If you happen to live in our area I would tell you it's the best $10 you will spend for entertainment this year. 3 more showings, tonight, tomorrow night 7 pm, and Sunday 2 pm. (Glenelg high school) And yes, the orchestra did play live for the play! I am ordering the dvd, and will try and upload some clips at a later time.

In addition to the play, we will be attending a chorus concert for Alex tonight. I didn't know he was a singer, and apparently he didn't either. I asked why he chose to be in chorus if he didn't want to sing. He simply said, "When I was picking which class I wanted, I just checked the box that said "ANY". Guess he has learned not to do that again! I am going to enjoy his first and most likely LAST chorus concert!

And Baseball is here!! Shawn, Alex, David and Greg are all playing baseball. Opening day is April 9th. I am sure there will be one or two posts in the season about that. (for all you sports fans) I feel so bad that I neglected hockey so much, we have some terrific photos from this year.

Update: So I decided to go in and have a "lifeline" screening. (this is a risk assessment for different types of heart disease, not covered by ins., performed by a private company.) everything looks good. I decided that screenings every few years is the best way to monitor my cholesterol and heart function. so happy to be off meds

I saw Kris' kids in a production of Aida, and like you, also wondered how it would be compared to broadway (although I hadn't seen it on broadway). BUT, like you, I found the school did an amazing job! I'm so glad that Shawn, Melissa, and the rest of the cast did a great job for all to enjoy. How'd Melissa score a role in the high school show anyway? Glad you're getting the health stuff figured out where you stay comfortable and happy while maintaining your health! :)
