Sports, sports and more sports!

On saturday Shawn started his first season of basketball with the Young Men..I have to admit that I was nervous for my little guy! Even though he is almost my height, he looks so short next to the other young men! Luckily, my man was slated to ref the game, so I was a little less nervous for Shawn (after all, 6' 3" Dale would be the biggest person on a court full of YM, right?) wrong! I freaked out when I saw Dale ref the game before Shawn's ...Dale looked AVERAGE Height next to these YM! It's weird enough that Dale has to play POINT GUARD when he plays with the men in our ward (for those of you unfamiliar with basketball...that is usually the short guy who brings the ball up and throws it to the bigger guys ..so at 6'3", Dale is the 'short guy') To have Dale look average next to the YM was crazy!

as the teams full of freakishly tall YM left the court, Shawn's team was up... the two teams went on the court and I was slightly comforted with the size of these guys, they wouldn't step on Shawn. Shawn started on the bench. When he checked in, he played point guard and did well! He has always played with kids his age, it was a new experience for him to play with tall, quick guys. He had a few turnovers, but he adjusted his game pretty well and will get better as the season goes on. The boys played well together and won the game ! In the picture below, Shawn is left of the shooter (he is looking at the camera) (just to clarify, the gray haired ref is NOT Dale)

Alex is also in basketball, but I have forgotten my camera for his games!! he plays kids his own age, and can hold his own...

I also play basketball every week (year round) with a bunch of woman in our ward...I am the point guard (of course!) and love it! but you can forget getting pictures of that, even if I had them I wouldn't post them!

My man also plays basketball ,twice a week...he scared me a few years ago with serious back problems, For a short time I worried that he wouldn't ever play ball again, and I am thrilled that he not only plays twice a week, but from all accounts is getting some of his quickness back! (no pictures of him either! )

Last night was practice for David's hockey team and it was picture night..In addition to the team photographer, my brother came and took a few shots, here is one of his (I will get the other ones later)

When does baseball start??

That hockey uniform looks like it set you guys back some major bucks!

It was good to have dinner the other night, although it would've been nice to talk to you more. We will have to go out alone next time, or not sit next to those LOUD girls!

I am so glad I only have one boy. The sports thing is just nuts. We just finish football and basketball starts up! Crazy. I don't know how you do it.

Good for you for playing ball every week. I think I would pass out if I tried to play now!

The uniform wasn't horrible, the ice time is what makes hockey costly..Melissa wants to figure skate, and Greg is interested in hockey..We would be smart to invest in an ice rink at this point!

Petra, when people talk about the 4 seasons, I think of "Baseball, soccer, hockey, basketball" And they all over lap!

We practically do pass out when we play ball! It kicks my butt sometimes, and I am one of the young ones!

Dale was about that size when he started playing basketball in 7th grade. I think that when YM start out small they get better faster then when they are tall. They feel like they have to work harder. Alison was only 5'2" when she started playing in high school. You have to keep exercising so that you can keep up with everyone. By the way: the pictures of your young athletes are great.

How on earth can that be Shawn!? It should still be Sunny-Pumpkin & Paes out there playing instead of our kids. My kid's first game is tomorrow but we she won't be there, since we'll be in VA.
HEY- I hope I get to see you there!
Oh and Petra - you could still give me lessons on how to play ball. I sure wish I could still play with you awesome girls. I have wonderful memories of my youth with you guys, good times!

I love that you play basketball with women in your ward! We'd never get that kind of interest down here, at least not from one ward--there aren't enough people! Sounds busy, but also sounds like the kids are having great childhoods!

Didn't you forget football season? Hello! That is major in our house!
For us it is football, ballet (tap & jazz), baseball & basketball (with a little taekwondo time thrown in there).

We're highly considering putting Eli in baseball this year. There is a special league for kids with public schools IEP's. It sounds right up Eli's alley. Very low key.

Basketball was fun! It would be fun to have a "reunion game" one day.

BYW, are you sure that wasn't Dale?
