And the reason is....?

I don't know! I have some quirks, I don't know where they came from, and they don't make sense, and since my quirks actually drive ME nuts, I thought I better make light of them and get a good laugh!

(these are in no particular order or ranking)

1. I love to eat the same thing for breakfast and lunch everyday..I know, I know, boring! wait til you hear what it is...for breakfast, an english muffin with butter, a yogurt and a fruit..for lunch..a pickle and mustard sandwich with baked lays (I try different kinds of lays to spice things up..!) with a steamed vegetable (my favorite is soy beans) I do enjoy going out to eat occassionally, but I always want to try somewhere new when I do go out, (go figure!)

2. I cannot sleep with socks on and one foot has to stick out of the blankets. (this doesn't work out well with my tall man who likes the blankets to lay symetrical on the bed...I am all about asymetrical blankets!)

3. I do not like to go shopping.( this is a huge part of being a mom to 5 kids, so I have learned to be good at it, but I still do not like it!) I keep a running list of all needed items and try to get them all in one day...I have gone to 6 stores in one day to avoid dragging out the shopping experience to another day...

4. I like showers instead of baths. we have a nice huge tub and everytime I take a bath in it, I always feel like I need a shower..and usually take one the next day.

5. I like the toilet paper to be put the CORRECT way on the holder....(that would be OVER for those who aren't sure)

6. I am a retard and can't get my Blog to work right and I am giving up! (I gave up and it works right...of course!)

7. I HATE (gritting my teeth right now just thinking about it!) getting my butt slapped! (More than that I hate when the offending party(DALE!) laughs at my anger while slapping my butt!) stop already!

Me, the pitbull!

I don't wear much lipstick, so as of Monday, when David started playing ice hockey, I officially became a Hockey mom that doesn't wear lipstick, a.k.a a pitbull!

I know David has been getting more than his fair share of Blog air time lately, but he was so excited about Hockey, and he was so cute, that I had to share the (really bad!) photos that I took to remember that night.
David had played one season of in line hockey, and has been bugging us non stop to play "real" hockey! He plays EVERy single day in our basement either alone or with his siblings. He has a Washington Capitals schedule and tells Dale or I everytime a game is on. He watches the games carefully and can accurately recite back different plays that happened. We decided to go ahead and give him an early birthday present and signed him up for ice hockey, (even though he had never set skate on ice before!!) I know the coach thought we were crazy monday night when we showed up with a kid who had never been on the ice...we reassured them that he wouldn't get frustrated and would keep trying no matter how much he were to fall...as soon as his laces were tied he was almost running on them...they opened the gate and on the ice he went...he fell a few times, but really picked up the basics, even making several turns without falling...he figured out the backwards movements and did well...he even scored a goal during the scrimmage!! So David's first hour on the ice EVER, and he scored a goal...he loves Hockey and just asked if he could go 3 times a week! (no thanks!)

October!

October is such a beautiful month, and it is flying by!! This weekend we went camping in Shenandoah National park...It is one of the most beautiful places to experience the fall colors! Unfortunately for my blog readers, I am incapable of capturing that beauty through my photography, so I will share my pictures, but I have to give you a disclaimer, My pictures are 1000x less brilliant than being there in person!

Shawn getting close to the wildlife at the campground..(are deer still considered wildlife??) On this trip the wildlife were out in full force before bedding down for the winter...we saw wild turkey's and on our way out we actually got to see a family of black bears hanging out in the woods! We were about 100- 150 feet from them, it was amazing to see them in the wild!

Picture from an over look

There were wild flowers all over, here is a brilliant red wildflower up close....

A view of some hot guy !!

We hiked one afternoon to a waterfall...The Appalachian trail runs the entire length of Skyline drive..we hiked small sections of the trail..Anyone who is lucky enough to hike the trail has a front row seat to the most amazing sights that our country has to offer!!

Dale, his dad, and his "little" brothers standing on a wall..(only about 100 foot drop directly behind them!!)

Me trying to get a picture of the scenery without wrecking! I would say that the biggest challenge of driving skyline drive is keeping your eyes on the road!! But everyone understands why you are driving so poorly, so it's ok!

Greg at enjoying one of the overlooks

On the Appalachian trail headed to the waterfall...a cold front came in just in time for our camping trip! It is about 20 degrees warmer today here at home

Another great view!

and another!

Us with Grandma and Grandpa Kelley at an overlook

The kids taking a rest with their cousins during a hike...they did a great job!!
!

I thought I would really miss the mountains, but then I came home and remembered the beauty we have right here in our back yard! our "wildlife"...

This is our second Autum in our house, and I am amazed at the brilliant colors our trees have! (again, my photography skills do not do the Autum colors justice!)

The view out the front door! (the pine tree is there to remind us of Christmas right around the corner!)

Fear vs Faith

I really enjoyed conference! It was so much information that I know it is going to take the next six months to reread everything and absord it all. Lately I have been thinking a lot about fear and it's impact on my life. So one of the memorable quotes for me from this conference was that "Faith and fear cannot reside together"..For some reason this simple piece of information has eluded me and it really hit me hard to hear how simple it is. If you are in fear of something, you cannot have faith in that! think of simple fears, like snakes, if you fear a snake, can you appreciate their worth? Can you have faith in their ability to deter rodents from your house or do you even care what their worth is if you are in fear of them?

I went down the list of a lot of common fears that people have...environmental and personal.

tornados
floods
hurricanes
spiders
fear of certain people due to stereotypes
heights
germs
etc etc

and internal..
fear of being viewed a certain way (liar, cheater, mean, disorganized, etc)
fear of being abandoned
fear of death
fear of being hurt
fear of your children being hurt
etc etc

I thought about each one of these and many more and how they can direct our behaviors. for example: fear of your children being hurt can direct what you allow them to do...I have seen fear overtake someones life and I never understood it, but it is so simple...fear and faith cannot reside together...fear has a partner, and that is despair..fear leads to despair, and despair leads to an emotional prison. Faith has a partner, and that is hope. Faith and Hope lead to emotional freedom. I am so grateful for the guidance of the Gospel of Jesus Christ in my life and for it's ability to take things that seemed so complicated and make them so simple...and for being able to hear a Prophet and Apostle speak to me to facilitate and promote faith and hope in my life.
